The need to make art

becomes quite overwhelming for me when I have been away from it too long, so today I played a bit.

This the start of an art journal piece that has been bouncing around in my head and needed out!
It is based on a little sketch the guest speaker did at a recent church women's conference I attended.

This a very amateur attempt at sketching and water colouring my daughter's cat Phil. He truly is not that angry looking.....eyes are hard! I would love to be better at this and I am told to just keep practising!

This final picture is the beginning of my guild challenge, more after the big reveal next month!

On being slowed down

and how much I hate it when it happens!
I spent a lovely week in Victoria visiting my daughters only to take a spill on my last day there, resulting in this ugliness!

And while it is a beautiful spring day outside and my garden is calling I must stay off it as ordered!

While I was hanging out at my daughter's house I had some time to work on my alphabets, this one done with coloured pencils.

For Mother's Day the girls gave me a gift card to a GREAT art store in down town Victoria and  on the weekend I got a chance to spend it! I have been long wanting to move up from my beginner Crayola water colours to this amazing little travel set of Koi water colours so that is the first thing I grabbed!

They were used on the next two alphabets, which are by far my favourites so far.

There are 25 alphas in total in this class and I am done up to 19 so I guess being laid up with the ankle will help me get caught up!

My garden is starting to bloom so I hope, with hubby's help to get it weeded so I can post some pics next week. "See" you then!

Spring has Sprung

And so my blog suffers! The spring/summer season here in the north is so short I try to be outside as much as I can while I can!
I have been cleaning up the yard, doing a super major spring cleaning of my truck as we have bought a new one and the old one needs to go up for sale. While I like having my dogs travel with me, they will now travel back in the canopied box, I spent HOURS cleaning out dog hair...........no more!!

I was taking my first Lettering class back in February before we went to Chile, but it kind of got shoved aside as new classes and more life stuff got in the way. As well, the last bit of the class was VERY messy and I found I was getting the spray ink everywhere! Since it has been nicer outside I decided to take it to the deck to finish. Despite the wind and the rain that began to fall as I was finishing, this stage is done and I can go on creating my final project!

As a result of my new lettering love, I have a new addiction to markers! And I am pleased to finally have figured out a way to store them all in one place and still have them be portable.

And this is my latest adventure in the art world........glass fusion! My first/beginner class project!
It is a little 6x6 glass dish and I cut all those flower and leaf pieces!
It was fun, but stressful to be a beginner again!
I see lots of quilt patterns on plates and bowls in my future!

Congratulations to Dolores for being the winner of the Art Girl on the Wild Abandonment class blog hop, she is now "winging" her way to South Dakota! I hope she loves her as much as I do.

Ciao for now my loves, out to enjoy this beautiful Mother's Day Sunday. Happy day to all you lovely Moms out there!

The Art of Wild Abandonment Bloghop

I am really excited to be part of this bloghop. This class, put on by
Christy Tomlinson and Junelle Jacobson has changed who I am as an artist in so many ways, I have tried things I was always too scared or felt too unskilled to do.........now, I am sketching and water colouring!!!

I am a huge fan of both these ladies and will pretty much take any class they teach online!

Here are some recent pieces I have completed based on the class assignments. I kept thinking, nah, I don't like that, not going to try it, but of course, LOVE them both!

This art too holder is made with the brush end of a masonry broom. If I ever find a broom with stiffer, tighter bristles, I will do it again, as this one won't hold heavier brushes.....but it's a fun addition to my work table!!!

Junelle is a HUGE fan of sheep, as you can tell if you visit her blog.........me? not so much, until Easter came with all it's the references to sheep and I changed my mind. After last Sunday's scripture readings I was compelled to make this little cutie!

I am very close to 2500 hits on my blog, so if I go over this weekend and you leave a comment, I will draw for this somewhat out of season, but still lovely She Art Girl!

If you are following the Art of Wild Abandonment Bloghop, you have probably came here from
Linda Barutha 's blog . After you have read my post don’t forget to follow the bloghop onto Kelly Hoernig

If you haven’t yet visited the bloghop, or experience a broken link, join in the fun by visiting www.clairesmillie.wordpress.com” and enjoy the work of all my wonderfully talented classmates.

I will be away all weekend at my church women' conference so I hope this all goes smoothly and I will check back on you all on Sunday!

Is uninspired even a word? Spell checker says yes, but it is one of those words that looks weird. Either way I guess that is how I am feeling the past 10 days I haven't blogged. With hubby off at school and gardening season upon us I guess my focus has shifted a bit.

I did get to a quilt show in Manning, a little town north of us that is the home of some really prolific quilters. And I taught a class last Saturday, a new group of Buggy Barn fans has been born!

Seeing as I am girl that is rarely without a project on the go, I do have a few tidbits to share.

I joined the prayer shawl ministry at church and here is my first attempt. It has 15 stripes and I do one a night. I am half way there but hope to finish it this weekend at our church women's conference.

I am still working away on my lettering class and with hubby away, it has kind of taken over the dining room table! He was home on the weekend so I am bit behind but I will catch up this week.

My Wild Abandonment class is having a blog hop, hope you will come back and visit again on Saturday, there is some amazing talent in this class!
I just have to figure out when 8 am British Summer Time is so I can set up my post to go live!
(Just figured out they are 7 hours ahead, so my post will go live at 1:00 am for you night owls!)

Have a great week, hope to "see" you Saturday!
