Northern garden

Living in the north presents gardening challenges and I have planted lots of things that didn't winter over but iris, lilies, bleeding hearts and peonies do really well!

Colour Challenged

Well, my entry for this week's ice cream inspiration "Mint Chocolate Chip" did not quite work out as planned.
I am taking yet another art class, this one on colour, so lots of experimenting with different mediums.
This was using watercolour crayons with pencil crayon resist, but I think because I am using mixed media paper and not watercolour paper, the effect of the colours blending just did not happen well. I don't think I pressed quite hard enough on my pencils crayons either. But this is a process class and I am enjoying the process!

So here is something else that might fit the bill, a lovely stack of new fabrics on the verge of becoming a baby quilt for the first "great" niece on my hubby's side.

That's it for today, but soon I will post some of the  pictures of my garden, that I captured between cloud bursts!

Paint Chip Challenge

Finally, here are the results of our quilt guild challenge. In October we each had to blindly choose an envelope with two paint chips in it. You were allowed to trade once but you had to KEEP your second pick.
I think my friend directly below was the only one who felt she couldn't work with her first pick (which were yellow and lilac......I would have LOVED that!)
As you can see, we did get a really lovely evening for our BBQ and reveal. The sun was quite bright behind me so some of the chips are a little hard to see but you will get the idea.
The lady who chose not show her face did so because she was holding someone else's project.
All in all, GREAT results, and we hope everyone who has not yet completed theirs will have them done by the end of August. Our guild has the little art gallery space in the library for the whole month of September and we hope to showcase this project as well as lots of other of our members' wonderful work.

Thanks ladies!

Talk about killing two birds with one stone with the challenges.
This wall hanging came about as part of our guild "paint chip" challenge. Last fall we blindly picked two paint chips and had to create something with just those two values and one other colour plus white if you wished.
Then as I was creating this piece,
along came
with the exact same colours as their first challenge of the summer.

It was meant to be!

So this is officially my post for Summer of Colour 2012 and I will post more about the guild challenge after the big reveal at the guild wind-up BBQ on Tuesday night (pray for no more rain!!!)

Thanks for visiting!
