Scraptastic Tuesday

Here is my most recent scrappy completion, for She Can Quilt's Scraptastic Tuesday, in the same quilt as you go style as my tinker tote. This is my iPad case, complete with a zipper pocket for my charger and headphones. Fabric pieces were all leftovers from a baby quilt for a great nephew.

You can find the tutorial, that I sort of followed here.

I was just back in BC to celebrate my Mom's 90th birthday, we should all be doing so well at that age!!

It was a crazy trip with flight cancellations on each end, but I am home safe and sound and getting ready to drive back down in two weeks to celebrate Christmas with my extended family.

Had to add this rare shot with my older brother. We don't get to see each other too often so this was a nice treat.
The picture quality is not up my usual standards as I just took along my little point and shoot and it just doesn't cut it!

So all the rest of my WIP's are in top secret mode so I have nothing more creative to share. Should have lots in the New Year after we return home.
Have a great week!

Festival of Trees

Here's the only shot I got of last Sunday's hike up Pat's Creek trail, it was too cold and my phone shut down when I tried to get one coming back down into town.
This is Sully my Shepherd x, who does come back when he's called! No off leash romping this time after our adventure of searching for Stella a few weeks ago.

Here is the Buggy Barn quilt all prettied up by it's new neighbours. I am sad to say that it only raised $750 for the event, WAY down from previous years. However, that is now $750 that the Women's Shelter has to spend on much needed necessities that they did not have before.

And now a few of my favourite entries.
These cuties were made by the kids at the local Francophone elementary school.

This piece totally enthralled me, the snowflake is all string on nails...

And my art commission all done and off to it's new owner.

Tis the season for secret projects so nothing sewing or knitting related to show until after the big day!
I am off to BC tomorrow (snowstorm permitting) to be with my family for my Mom's 90th birthday on Monday.
Have a great week!

Alberta Day

It's Alberta day at Blogathon Canada!
You can check out the links at She Can Quilt and Everyday Fray, as well as the chance to win some great giveaways. As well don't forget our hosts at Sew Sisters also have a giveaway every day this week.

I realized I have not shared any of our hike pictures since the weather made a definite turn into winter. The first one is up the Old Twelve Foot Davis road, if you are a local you will know. This is the day our rambunctious lab x decided she had her own agenda and we spent the rest of the afternoon trying to find her. Thankfully someone found her and called us.......phew.....

This one is along my regular walking route but just loved the sun on the freezing up know it's cold when that starts to happen.

The festival quilt is up at the show, looking a bit lonely, but I will post more pics once the venue is all decorated and we see how much she goes for!

As Christmas approaches it is getting hard to find things to share as pretty much everything I am working on are gifts.
But here is my tote made from the first Downton Abbey fabric line.......big fan, big, big fan of that show so I had to have a bit of that fabric in something.

An art commission piece in progress, been a long time since I made any art!

And the beginning of my quilt as you go iPad bag.

Friday Finishes

Still working full time so no quilty finishes, but! I did finish these great hobo bags.
I have now made 9 of them, super easy and very gratifying.
Of these, all are sold or spoken for but one, they did not even make it to my etsy store.

And another pair of socks, this makes my third pair, obviously I quite enjoy sock knitting.
I have to put that on hold now while I work on Christmas projects, which will have to wait for show and tell until after the big day!

Off to the pool before I work at noon, keeping up with my exercise program has probably been the most challenging thing about all this working. I have four days off starting Sunday so Christmas production will have to go into high gear!

Scraptastic Tuesday

It's scraptastic Tuesday over at She Can Quilt, so I am linking up my most recent scrap project.

This is my Tinker Tote from my Quilt as You Go Bags class over at Craftsy. I just love, love, love it and it has garnered lots of compliments already.
Except for the Pellon Decorbond on the inside, this project is completely from my stash, I could make 50 more and still not run out of scraps I think.

I already have a plan to make myself an iPad case for travelling from the same techniques used in this project and I expect a "few" more Tinker Totes as well.

Also, next week is the start of the Canadian Bloggers Connect Blogathon Canada, which runs November 17-22. The Alberta link up will be Wednesday November 19th, but check the link (or the button on my sidebar) to see which day your province is being represented. I think there may still be time to have your blog added to the link up so hop over and check it out.

To all my fellow Canadians as we honour our veterans this November 11, 2014 Remembrance Day. I thank my own dad and all other veterans for fighting for the freedoms we so easily take for granted.

And the Winner Is...............

By the low tech approach of hubby picking a number between 1 and 59, the lucky winner is...............

#33, Cricket's Corner

"hope your quilt raises tons of money for the's always so fulfilling when you help others. Love the socks and how you used such a creative way to finish them. I just recently started working with hexi's again and this book looks like it's perfect to spark some creativity. Thanks for the chance."

I have contacted the winner via email to gather their mailing information, the book with be sent directly to them from Katja.
Thank you again to Katja for offering up her gorgeous new book to one lucky winner. If you didn't win the book and would like a copy you can contact her here.
Thanks also to all who visited and left comments, I have never had so much blog traffic or so many comments, it was a joy to hear from you all!

After 5 glorious months off I returned to work on Monday.  I know I said I was retiring but I had always intended to find something casual to help support my hobbies and to get me out of my basement sewing room and into the world of people........I like people.
I have two full weeks of training this week and next and then I will train in another part of the department for another week so. After that I will only work when they need sick or holiday coverage..........good deal I think.
So that is my excuse for having no projects to show, I have not even stepped into my sewing room since Sunday. That will end today! I have missed the hum of my machine.

We had our quilt show opening on Wednesday night, so here are some beauties to share from my fellow guild members.

All 13 little River quilts hanging together for the first time, we were so pleased that it is what we envisioned it to be!!

Results of last spring's Kaleidoscope workshop, I did not attend this class due to our winter vacation so I cannot remember the instructor's name, but I know it is a Ricky Timm's pattern

More of my lovely friend Carole's fabulous work

Alice's quilt but again more of Carole's work, I simple cannot get enough of it!

Sadly no link ups today as I have no finishes to show off!
Have a great weekend and I will be back next week with info on Blogathon Canada!

Friday Finishes and a Hexie-licous Giveaway!

I have been waiting for a Finish it Up Friday to show this quilt AGAIN! But now it is all done and ready to go, three weeks ahead of schedule.........that NEVER happens!
Carole and I truly hope this quilt raises a boat load of cash for our local Women's Shelter at the Festival of Trees to be held mid-November

Some closeups of Carole's fabulous quilting............

Tomorrow we hang our quilt show at the library Art Gallery space and we all finally get to see the twelve little river quilts all hanging together. Can't wait to share photos with you all.

Yes, I crazily quilted around all the rocks on the beach, the dern thing is so heavily quilted I think it will stand up by itself!

I did manage to finish one pairs of socks for socktober, even with the yarn emergency. The self striping yarn was the creative solution to a now discontinued yarn. I think they are funkily fun, not to mention warm and cozy.

Now for the Hexie-liciousness........
Regular readers know I have been working on the project on and off for over two years, sure wish I had discovered Sarah's binder clip tip way back at the beginning!

And now we are THIS close to being done, 5 more seams and some borders to go.

But she has been shipped off to Kamloops to be on display for this big event!!
The release of Katja's first book, it was so fun to watch her excitement at market via instagram, where the book was officially released last week.

To celebrate she is graciously giving away copy of her book to one of my readers who comments on this post, as well as Linda and Carla's blogs, so visit them too to triple your chance of winning.
I will announce the winner next Friday November 7th.

Work in Progress Wednesday

Well, our gorgeous fall weather came to an abrupt end on Monday and this is pretty much how it will look to varying degrees for the next 6 months.
But, that makes for good quilting and knitting weather right?

My next pair of socks are on the needles and almost ready for a heel flap, not so sure the will get done by the end of socktober but that's OK they will still be a cozy and warm wear for the winter.

I started sewing up 114 pairs of squares to make 228 HST triangles

for my Chandelier quilt-along. You can find the link to this here

This pile awaiting attention is two tote bags all cut out and ready to go, and some scraps from a previous project waiting to become my new iPad case.

I mentioned the Blogger's Quilt Festival in my last post and said that voting started on November 1, however what I missed was that I need to be NOMINATED! before you can vote for me! if you want to nominate me for Viewer's Choice, you can do so here, you will find my quilt in the "large" category.

I will be back on Friday for a great giveaway!!!

Blogger's Quilt Festival

The Blogger's Quilt Festival is just a little something for those of us who don't get to go to the big international Quilt Market in Houston that is held this time every year.

I am posting my Supernova quilt (64"x64") from the Quilt-Along at Freshly Pieced Modern Quilts. I missed the quilt-along when it was originally run but started seeing this wonderful quilt all over the blogosphere and just loved it.
I collected fabrics and made my own a couple of years ago and today it is still my favourite quilt, as you can see from it's place of pride on my header! It hangs in my bedroom and I never get tired of seeing it every morning when I wake up.

I love blocks that make secondary patterns.

I machine quilted this on my own machine in straight diagonal lines, which in itself felt like a big accomplishment!

And I love making scrappy binding from the leftover fabric.

I am entering my quilt in the large quilt category and hope you will come back between November 1st and 7th to vote for me (or your other favourites :) ), don't worry, I'll remind you!

Have a great weekend!

Scraptastic Tuesday (on Friday)

Leanne over at She Can Quilt is hosting a monthly Scraptastic Tuesday (this month's link up party was extra long, thank goodness!)

What quilter doesn't have scraps, lots and lots and lots of scraps! Having been quilting for over 30 years, you can just imagine!
For a very long time I have wanted to make a pineapple quilt, so during our log cabin challenge at guild a couple of years ago I started this and succeeded in getting 4 four inch blocks completed. There are over 200 in the pictured quilt, it's a long term project.................

I have my larger scraps sorted by colour so it is my intention to make Candy Coated from
Sunday Morning Quilts, all in blues. I plan to start that one in January once I am done with Christmas projects.

And I have been seeing this one around the blogosphere, so it has been added to my list as well. I think I will cut some squares while I work through my blue bucket on the above quilt, it's a start.

I am hoping this monthly linky party with be motivation for me to make some progress on my plethora of scraps!
How do you deal with your scraps?
